In the movie version, the one presenting the engagement ring surprises the recipient with a ring, asking the question “Will you marry me?” We have seen this movie many times and it is romantic, but practically speaking perhaps not the best choice.
A more reasonable and realistic option is to confer with the partner and make a joint decision on what kind and how much to spend on a ring. And this is what is happening more and more with millennials who are moving away from the rigid norms of the past.
A joint decision on the ring solves a number of potential problems such as either overspending or underspending on the ring as well as style choices that may not be what the recipient wants.
Ricco’s advice: Do it together.
